The Tank Museum's Maintenance Team sits under the facilities department and is essential to ensuring the site remains safe, fully operational, and welcoming throughout the year. Their work covers a wide range of responsibilities, from routine maintenance such as repairs, lawn care, and car park management, to supporting the wider team with event logistics. They play a key role in delivering our events programme, including Tankfest, a world-class festival that attracts more than 25,000 visitors. This position sits with a wider team of maintenance operatives but is particularly focused on covering key duties over the weekend during peak season. Leading a small team of casuals, the maintenance operative leads the car parking operations on these days in addition to handling any ad-hoc queries from the team for the day to day operation. Key Accountabilities To lead the museums car parking operations to ensure a smooth start to visitor's day To work with and support our Car Parking and Operations Assistances in day to day tasks To support the Facilities Manager in general building and site maintenance both planned and 'reactive'. To undertake gardening and grounds maintenance ensuring the site is always tidy and safe To support Events and Exhibition and Guide Teams in general maintenance and set up. To maintain, safely operate and store securely all tools, equipment, plant and vehicles owned or hired by the Tank Museum for maintenance tasks. To ensure the tidiness and functionality of maintenance areas such as the Maintenance Workshop, shipping containers and back compound. To assist in day-to-day checks on the museum and grounds making right or logging any issues found appropriately. To keep a record of all tools and equipment owned by the Tank Museum and in consultation with the Facilities Manager take steps to rectify any shortfalls in stock. To be willing to react out of hours to Tank Museum emergencies if required. To ensure the relevant risk assessments, COSHH assessments & permits are in place and up to date before any works take place. To work with and supervise external contractors who maintain the Tank Museum site and building - logging any work as required. To act as a first aider (when qualified) and report any first aid incidents, near misses or dangerous occurrences to Facilities Manager or Duty Manager in the correct manner. To open up & close the museum according to the Museum's written procedure if required. To act as a fire marshal and have knowledge of Museum wide fire evacuation procedures. To act in the interest of The Tank Museum Health & Safety Policy reporting any violations to the Facilities Manager.
