Apply for the Simulation Fellow in Anaesthetics (ST3+) role at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.
Overview
EKHUFT runs a busy and exciting programme of Simulation Based Education and invites anaesthetic fellows to join the Simulation Team. You will be trained by the Simulation Team to operate a range of simulation technologies and learn how to become a simulation facilitator through simulation debrief training. In addition to learning the science behind simulation-based education you will also learn about human factors and non‑technical skills which will both enhance your role as a healthcare educator and as a clinician.
Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to join expert multi‑professional faculties in the delivery of local and regional courses. A wide range of simulation activities are offered to different clinical specialities as well as undergraduates and Foundation Programme doctors. You will be involved in anaesthetic crisis resource training, transfer skills training, and support quality improvement initiatives, including resilience testing of clinical environments.
Clinical Duties
Clinical activity will include pre‑, peri‑ and post‑operative management of surgical patients and on‑call duties. A logbook of the clinical cases undertaken should be recorded, and an option to complete a reflective learning portfolio of teaching activities is available. Annual appraisal is conducted locally through the Trust appraisal and revalidation system.
On Call Arrangements
There is a three‑tier on‑call structure for anaesthetics led by the on‑call Consultant Anaesthetist who is resident until 2200 h. This direct supervision provides an excellent opportunity for training while participating in emergency duties. Skills will be developed in the management of patients undergoing surgery in theatre, airway support in the ED, cardiac arrest, pPCI suite, trauma calls, and working on the labour ward.
The on‑call commitments are approximately 1 in 8. Weekend and night‑time cover may change as staffing levels change. The on‑call duties of the post‑holder will depend on competence and experience. An experienced post‑holder with obstetric experience would be expected to cover the maternity unit and support junior anaesthetists in theatres, cardiac catheter suite and assist with airway emergencies on ITU.
Location & Trust
We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people.
