Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) protects the public by preparing court-involved youth to be successful citizens. DJJ is committed to excellence in public safety by providing effective interventions that improve the lives of youth, strengthening both families and communities within the Commonwealth.

We are hiring for a Program Administrator that will report directly to the Director of Post-Secondary Programs. This position assists in the planning, organization, administration, and management of post-secondary educational programs. Leveraging expert knowledge of educational policies, supervisory practices, and data analysis, they support the delivery of high-quality instructional services and promote student academic progress. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations while fostering a safe and positive learning environment. Responsibilities include supervising and developing staff, overseeing curriculum implementation, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to advance program goals.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm

Suggested Core Responsibilities: (Not limited to)

1. Instructional Leadership - Collaborates with stakeholders to plan, implement, support, monitor, and evaluate instructional programs. Analyzes academic and behavioral data to improve overall school effectiveness.
2. Student Academic Progress - Collaborates with teachers and staff to monitor student progress through the analysis of data, the application of educational research, and the implementation of appropriate intervention and enrichment strategies.
3. Data Management and Reporting - Collect, organize, and maintain accurate academic, behavioral, and operational data related to post-secondary programs. Analyze quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement in instructional programs and student outcomes.
4. School Climate - Collaborates with division leadership and staff to promote and maintain a positive school academic learning environment. Consistently models and collaboratively promotes high expectations, mutual respect, concern, and empathy for students, staff, parents, and community.
5. Organizational Management - Demonstrates and communicates a working knowledge and understanding of Virginia public education rules, regulations, laws, and DJJ and DHRM policies and procedures. Establishes and enforces rules and policies to ensure a safe, secure, efficient, and orderly facility and grounds.
6. Communication and Community Relation - Participates with stakeholder to promote effective decision-making and communication when appropriate. Communicates long- and short-term goals and the school improvement plan to all stakeholders. Effective written and verbal communication skills for interacting with educators, stakeholders, administrators and regulatory agencies.


Essential Skills: (Not limited to)

7. Comprehensive understanding of post-secondary educational program management, instructional leadership, and curriculum development.
8. Familiarity with data management systems, reporting tools, and best practices for data analysis and interpretation in an educational context.
9. Awareness of effective school climate strategies and organizational management principles to promote safe, inclusive, and productive learning environments.
10. Strong analytical skills to evaluate academic and behavioral data, identify trends, and support data-driven decision making.
11. Effective leadership and supervisory skills, including staff evaluation, mentoring, and professional development facilitation.
12. Ability to develop, monitor, and adjust instructional programs to improve student academic progress and outcomes.
13. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

14. Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree.
15. VA Administration and Supervision Endorsement.
16. Instructional and/or leadership experience
17. Knowledge and understanding of post-secondary educational program management.

18. Experience working in a school or juvenile correctional facility
