About the role:
As an Engineering Technician within Powys County Council’s Engineering Design Services team, you will support the delivery of civil and structural engineering projects that maintain and improve the county’s highway and property infrastructure. This is a career-graded role offering a structured development pathway. A key feature of this opportunity is that the successful candidate will be supported to study for a two-year,
part-time HNC in Civil Engineering. The Council will fund the tuition fees and provide day release to attend college, enabling the post holder to gain valuable qualifications while contributing to real-world projects.

• A motivated and technically curious individual with a strong desire to learn and grow within the civil engineering profession.

• Organised and methodical, with good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Comfortable using IT and design software (e.g., AutoCAD), with a basic
understanding of engineering principles, health and safety legislation, and environmental considerations.
• Passionate about infrastructure, sustainability, and delivering high-quality public services.
What you will do:
• Assist with and, where appropriate, take responsibility for inspections, designs, calculations, drawings, reports, and contract documentation.
• Support the development of bespoke engineering solutions, both during design and on-site phases.
• Monitor contractors and support project managers to ensure works are delivered to specification and within budget.
• Liaise with stakeholders, statutory undertakers, and members of the public.
• Participate in training and development activities, including the HNC programme, to build professional competence.
• Contribute to public engagement and respond to enquiries and complaints related to assigned projects.
• Promote safe working practices and uphold the council’s values of equality and
inclusion.
