Description Job Title: Rack Commissioner – UK Location: Retford UK Reports To: Branch Director At CTI, our reputation is built on precision, quality, and engineering excellence. Our Rack Commissioners play a critical role in ensuring our AV systems are expertly built, configured, and rigorously tested before reaching the installation phase – our commitment to our clients is “We test in our shop, so you don’t have to in yours” As part of the engineering team, you will be responsible for assembling and wiring AV equipment racks to the highest industry standards, configuring devices with network and control settings, and carrying out base-level system tests before deployment. Working closely with Project Managers and Design Engineers, you will ensure each system is built to specification, correctly configured, and fully functional before leaving the workshop. Key Responsibilities: Rack Build & Wiring Following the technical documentation provided by the Project Managers and Design Engineers, you will be responsible for assembling and wiring AV equipment racks. This includes ensuring all cabling is routed neatly and logically, with appropriate service loops, strain relief, and labelling for long-term serviceability. You will apply industry best practices for power distribution, heat dissipation, and airflow management, ensuring that every rack is built for reliability and ease of maintenance. System Configuration & Pre-Stage Testing Once racks are assembled, you will configure and pre-stage all system components. This includes setting IP addresses, routing configurations, and control system settings, as well as loading firmware and initial programming files. You will also conduct baseline functionality tests, such as verifying signal paths, checking power-on sequences, and testing initial audio, video, and control functions. Any issues or inconsistencies must be documented and resolved in collaboration with the project team before deployment. Quality & Engineering Standards Every rack and system component must meet CTI’s strict engineering and quality control standards. You will be responsible for ensuring that cabling is managed correctly, terminations are secure, and system components are mounted and labelled to CTI’s best practices. Adhering to CTI’s quality procedures, you will play a key role in ensuring that no system leaves the workshop without passing a rigorous quality inspection. Collaboration & Communication You will work closely with Project Managers, Design Engineers, and Installation Teams to fully understand the project requirements. Regular communication is essential to ensure that build specifications are correctly interpreted and executed. You will be expected to flag potential issues, seek clarification where needed, and provide clear, structured feedback on system readiness. This ensures that the entire team is aligned, and projects transition smoothly into the installation phase. Site Readiness & Handover Once pre-staging and testing are complete, you will prepare racks and system components for transportation to the installation site. This includes final documentation, wiring schedules, and configuration records, ensuring that all system details are accurately captured. You will work with the logistics team to ensure that racks are securely packed and all necessary tools, accessories, and materials are accounted for. This preparation is critical in ensuring a seamless handover to the on-site installation team. Health & Safety Compliance You will be expected to maintain a safe and professional working environment at all times, following all CTI health & safety protocols. When handling power distribution and electrical connections, you must adhere to all relevant electrical safety regulations. Additionally, workshop and site environments must be kept tidy and free of hazards, ensuring both personal and team safety. Key Skills & Qualifications: We value professional growth and encourage our team to pursue ongoing development in the following areas: Strong knowledge of rack-building principles, including cable management, power distribution, airflow, and heat dissipation. Understanding of AV system integration, including signal routing, control system setup, and network configuration. Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation. Experience in basic networking, including IP configuration, VLAN assignment, and router setup. Proficiency in testing and troubleshooting AV systems before deployment. Professional Qualifications (Preferred) Certifications: CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or equivalent. Manufacturer-Specific Training: Manufacturer training in Crestron, Extron, Biamp, Q-SYS and Ross etc. Essential Skills: ECS (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme), IPAF, PASMA for electrical and site work.
