JOB TITLE: Healthcare Assistant
REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager (clinically)
PLACE OF WORK: North Brink Practice
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities
* Work as a member of the Practice Nursing team under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to support the organisation and facilitation of clinical care in a holistic and proactive manner for patients registered at the practice.
* Maintain a high professional standard of nursing care in adherence to Practice protocols/policies and guidelines, and provide nursing assistance to GPs and other members of the primary healthcare team.
* Be flexible to changes in health service delivery; work within your level of competency and expand your role in line with practice requirements and scope of practice.
* Assist and perform routine nursing tasks related to patient care (e.g., routine BP checks, ECG, suture/clip removal, BMI, lifestyle advice) as directed by line manager, registered nurses, and GPs.
* Support patients to improve and maintain mental, physical, behavioural health and wellbeing using behaviour change interventions (e.g., health checks, smoking cessation services).
* Support wound care planning with RGN for chronic and acute wounds; implement wound care plans following local/national guidelines.
* Undertake Leg Ulcer care and compression bandaging after training and competency assessment; manage immunisation programmes under the national protocol.
* Administer prescribed medications appropriate to the role (e.g., B12) and support ear irrigation following training.
* Support chronic disease management (e.g., monitoring stable asthma, basic checks for Type 2 diabetes); provide health promotion and guidance on national screening programs.
* Undertake investigations (e.g., Ambulatory BP monitoring, spirometry) and refer to the relevant clinician for interpretation/planning of care.
* Chaperone, assist with minor surgery and well-woman procedures; maintain infection control per local guidelines and practice policy.
* Recognise and manage anaphylaxis and perform CPR/BLS with AED following training.
* Contribute to staff development and training, stock control, and cost-effective use of disposable items; participate in QOF-related developments.
* Record accurate notes of all consultations and treatments; attend practice meetings; be aware of safeguarding and referral mechanisms for mental health, family violence, vulnerable adults, and addictions.
Qualifications
Essential
* Healthcare qualification (Level 3 or 4) or working towards equivalent Care certificate, or willingness to undertake
* Patient-focused approach; empathetic and able to maintain a safe, understanding atmosphere
* Excellent communication skills; ability to follow clinical policy and procedure
* Fluency in written and spoken English; good time management; able to work as part of a team or autonomously
* Flexibility, reliability, and willingness to develop professionally; ability to cope with stress; calm under pressure
Desirable
* Interest or working knowledge of Chronic Disease management; Leg Ulcer management knowledge
* Ear care/syringe competency; Spirometry/Doppler skills; injection administration training
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working with the general public and in a healthcare setting
Desirable
* Experience in a primary care or community setting
Other Requirements
* Ability to use computer daily for email and Microsoft programs; experience with General Practice clinical systems
* Enhanced DBS clearance and Occupational Health Clearance
