About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Engineer to join a large UK based industrial manufacturing team. This role is essential to the build, repair, overhaul, and maintenance of industrial gearboxes, rotating equipment, and associated mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Strip down, inspect, and rebuild industrial gearboxes, motors, and other rotating equipment.
* Perform diagnostics, mechanical fault-finding, and root cause analysis on failing machinery and drive systems.
* Undertake precise fitting, alignment, and assembly of mechanical components, including shafts, bearings, seals, and gears.
* Conduct mechanical repairs both in-house and on customer sites, ensuring high standards of quality and safety.
* Liaise with the design, production, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless operations and minimal downtime.
* Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance using internal systems.
* Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve performance, efficiency, and safety.
* Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures
About You
* Time-served or formally qualified Mechanical Engineer (HNC/HND or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or similar).
* Proven experience in gearbox assembly and repair, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
* Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including bearings, gear trains, shafts, seals, and lubrication systems.
* Familiarity with workshop tools and equipment such as presses, grinders, micrometers, dial indicators, and torque wrenches.
* Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
* Comfortable working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
* Full UK driving license (preferred for field-based repair work).
