Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our small, friendly team at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and knowledgeable Cardiac Physiologist to work as a Cardiac Device Specialist. You will join a focused team providing independent support within the Cardiac Device Service. The department offers the full range of implantable devices from simple pacemakers to complex devices and specialise in electrical CRT Optimisation. The department is progressive and performs Physiologist-Led Device Pre-Assessment, Physiologist-Led ILR Implantation and a Scientist-Led Syncope Clinic. The Cardiac Physiology Service at Rotherham is evolving and requires flexible and forward thinking staff to shape our future. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills to work autonomously and act as a positive role model within the department. We are seeking a Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist with wide reaching experience in cardiac devices at an independent practice level. You must have a passion for cardiac rhythm management and have specialist knowledge of complex devices.


Main duties

To independently provide specialist and advanced Physiologist support to the Cardiac Device Service in the implantation and follow-up of the full range of implantable cardiac devices (implantable defibrillators, cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices, pacemakers and implantable loop recorders), under the guidance of the Cardiac Device Lead and Consultant Clinical Scientist:

* Device Implantation and technical follow-up
* Remote monitoring and alert management
* Physiologist-Led Device Pre-Assessment
* Domiciliary visits
* Peri-operative planning
* Deactivation of implantable defibrillators
* CRT Optimisation and assessment of response
* Conduction system pacing/LBAP/HIS
* Physiologist Implantation of Loop Recorders (according to job role)

Main duties of the job

To work flexibly in accordance with the South Yorkshire Complex Device Network and Device On-call rota/out of hours model. This may involve working on different sites (e.g. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, hospice, patient home) and outside normal working hours, to deliver a 24-hour and 365-day Device Service. To undertake a range of cardiac investigations within the scope of professional practice (according to job role). To analyse and interpret complex data and report clinical findings which affect patient management and advise relevant clinical staff of their importance as necessary. Escalates time-critical findings as per departmental policy.

Qualifications


Essential

* Completion of MSc Scientist Training Programme (STP) or equivalent (e.g. BSc in Clinical Physiology or HTEC MPPM with SCST Parts I and II)
* HCPC/RCCP/AHCS Registration (HCPC expected within 18 months of recruitment)
* Basic Life Support (BLS) and manual defibrillation certification.
* Post graduate level Accreditation with British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) or IBHRE


Desirable

* Relevant Training or Assessors Qualification


Experience


Essential

* Experience in performing and reporting a wide range of routine Invasive and Non-Invasive cardiac investigations/procedures at independent practice level
* Experience as a Band 6 Cardiac Physiologist
* Experience as an independent practitioner in Pacemaker/ILR implantation and follow-up
* Experience as an independent practitioner of complex device implantation and follow-up (ICD/CRT)
* Experience as an independent practitioner using Remote Monitoring systems
* Experience in the day-to-day organisation and administration of a busy device service
* Evidence of up-to-date CPD within Devices
* Specialism at post graduate level


Desirable

* Experience of Physiologist-Led Device Pre-Assessment as an independent practitioner
* Experienced Physiologist-Implanter of Implantable Loop Recorders (ILR)
* Experienced in Conduction system pacing/LBAP


Knowledge


Essential

* Wide, thorough and up-to-date specialist postgraduate level knowledge across the full range of cardiac physiology investigations including advanced techniques such as complex devices
* Extensive knowledge of cardiac device programming in line with evidence based practice
* Extensive knowledge of a range of Remote Monitoring Systems
* Knowledge of professional standards in keeping with RCCP, AHCS or HCPC registration
* Knowledge of NHS Policies, practices and procedures including clinical governance
