Job Purpose
The Contact Supervision Worker is responsible for providing high-quality, safe, and child‑centred supervision of contact sessions between children and their family members as part of social care and safeguarding arrangements. The postholder ensures that all contact is conducted in line with the child’s care plan, legislative requirements, and local authority procedures.
The role involves direct work with children and families, objective recording of observations, promoting positive family interactions, and escalating any safeguarding concerns promptly.
Key Duties / Accountabilities
Contact Supervision & Support
* Supervise contact sessions between children and family members in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
* Ensure the emotional and physical wellbeing of children throughout sessions.
* Support parents/carers to understand and demonstrate safe, positive parenting strategies.
* Manage challenging behaviour calmly and safely, following risk assessments and safeguarding protocols.
Recording & Reporting
* Produce clear, factual, and timely written reports of all contact sessions for social workers and legal proceedings.
* Record observations objectively, noting behaviours, interactions, and any safeguarding concerns.
* Maintain accurate attendance logs, incident reports, and case documentation.
Safeguarding & Risk Management
* Follow all safeguarding policies and escalate concerns immediately to the supervising social worker or team manager.
* Monitor compliance with contact agreements and respond appropriately to any breaches.
* Contribute to risk assessments and provide updates on any changes observed within family dynamics.
Communication & Partnership Working
* Work collaboratively with social workers, foster carers, residential teams, and external agencies.
* Provide feedback to colleagues involved in the child’s care plan.
* Engage families respectfully, promoting positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
Operational Responsibilities
* Prepare contact rooms and resources for sessions.
* Support the organisation and scheduling of contact arrangements.
* Ensure health & safety, confidentiality, and GDPR compliance at all times.
* Attend training, supervision, and team meetings as required.
Essential Experience Required
* Experience working with children, young people, and families in a social care, education, youth work, or similar setting.
* Knowledge of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures.
* Experience of writing accurate reports based on observed behaviours.
* Ability to manage sensitive and potentially distressing situations professionally.
* Experience balancing empathetic support with firm professional boundaries.
Essential Qualifications Required
* Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, Children & Young People, Education, or related field (or equivalent experience).
* Up-to-date Safeguarding Children training (or willingness to undertake).
* Full UK driving licence (if travel between sites is required by the local authority)

* Hours: 4 hours per week
* Contract Type: 3-month contract with a Local Authority
* Pay Schedule: Bi‑weekly payment schedule
* The role involves working from contact centres and sometimes community settings.
* Enhanced DBS check is mandatory.
* Some evening or weekend work may be required depending on service demand.
