 
        
        We are seeking a Specialty doctor in oncology to work full time 10 PA's per week plus on call rota commitment. We are a research- orientated department with a dedicated Clinical Trials team. The successful applicant would join a team of Clinical and Medical Oncologists, Specialist Doctors, Specialty Doctors, Clinical Fellows, Consultant Radiographers, Consultant Pharmacists, Chemotherapy Nurse Prescribers and Immunotherapy Advanced Nurse Practitioners.
We work with a team of supportive and collaborative colleagues and enjoy training a group of motivated trainees from two deaneries. We run cancer clinics cancer across the county with clinics at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and in Yeovil at St Margaret's Hospice. We have an active Clinical Trials portfolio with trials open in radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatment in the commercial and non-commercial sector.

The Beacon Centre (Taunton) and the St Margaret's Hospice (Yeovil) provide cancer care to the population of Somerset of approximately 560,000. Main duties of the job
With the support of the Consultant team, this role will involve becoming an integral part of a selection of the following clinical subsite teams, which may include, breast, skin radiotherapy, radiation for haematological malignancies, gynae-oncology, colorectal, urology, and lung. Preferences can be discussed in pre-interview conversations with the Clinical Service Lead.
Within radiotherapy, we hold a regular steering group meeting to implement any new developments and ensure we are up to date with published data and RCR guidelines.
With your Clinical Service Lead, you will agree a prospective Job Plan within 3 months of commencing the post that sets out your main duties and responsibilities, schedule for carrying out your Programmed Activities, managerial responsibilities, accountability arrangements, objectives and supporting resources, with the aim of seamless service provision. Please note that on occasion, you may be required to work some programmed activities during evenings and weekends but will have time off in lieu during the working week. This matter will be discussed with the post holder and the Associate Medical Director.

Person Specification
Qualifications
 * Full GMC registration with license to practice
 * Medical Degree
 * Higher Medical Degree
 * Diploma in Oncology
Experience
 * Specialty Doctors must have a minimum of 4 years experience since primary medical qualification, 2 of which should be in a relevant specialty.
 * Knowledge / experience of primary care sector
 * Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
 * Experience of palliative medicine for patients with non-cancer conditions.
 * Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems in Oncology
 * Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance and risk management with particular reference to oncology.
 * Experience of e-prescribing

 * IT Literate
 * Attendance at management training and evidence of Learning.
 * Awareness of the requirements of clinical governance and risk management with particular reference to oncology.
 * Experience of supervising Doctors in Training
 * Ability to teach clinical skills
 * Experience of applying principles of adult education or quality improvement
 * Experience and interest in teaching of staff both undergraduate and post graduate and from all disciplines.
 * Knowledge of ethics, principles of practice of clinical research and proven participation in clinical research.
 * Ability to commute between places of work.
 * Must be able to meet on call requirements
 * Driving license
