The role
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Cemetery Grave Digging Operative to join our grounds team. This is a vital role supporting bereaved families by ensuring all burial areas are prepared, maintained, and presented to the highest possible standard. The position involves outdoor, year‑round work and requires a respectful, professional approach at all times. Key Responsibilities Grave preparation - digging, backfilling, and preparing burial plots using hand tools and mechanical equipment Grounds maintenance - mowing, strimming, planting, and general upkeep of cemetery grounds Site safety - following all health and safety procedures, including safe use of machinery Funeral support - assisting funeral directors and families during services Record keeping - updating burial registers and ensuring accurate plot identification Team collaboration - working closely with grounds staff and management to maintain high standards About You Physically fit and comfortable with manual outdoor work in all weather Able to operate or learn to operate small plant machinery (e.g., mini‑diggers) Respectful, discreet, and sensitive when working around grieving families Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions precisely Full UK driving licence preferred What We Offer Full training and development opportunities Supportive team environment Stable, meaningful work serving the local community Blue Arrow is proud to be a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to helping find great work opportunities for great people.
