Job description


As a Performance Analyst you :

* are proficient in a wide range of tools and ensure that the team is equipped with the required skills according to the strategy set out by the Lead Performance Analyst
* are skilled and experienced at carrying out the day-to-day activities of a performance analyst, including visualising and communicating insight, while also carrying out increasingly complex analysis working with other teams where necessary
* are actively contribute to the performance analysis community within their department or organisation, while forging links with other analytical disciplines and up-skill others in analysis where possible and appropriate
* have experience of working on GA4 data layer implementations from start to finish, including planning, designing schema, deployment, and ongoing optimisation.Good working understanding of GA4's architecture, event tracking, and custom dimensions/metrics
* have good technical skills in Google Tag Manager (GTM) and SQL, enabling you to implement and troubleshoot GA4 tagging, and an awareness of JavaScript, HTML
* have experience feeding into data architecture plans that ensures accurate and reliable data collection. Experience in setting up and maintaining data validation processes specific to GA4, with the ability to contribute to data processing pipelines that create clean, and useful analytics outputs


Person specification


We're interested in people who:

* can demonstrate strong proficiency with digital analytics platforms, such as Google Analytics (specifically GA4) working with high volumes of data
* are experienced using analytical environments to evaluate and analyse data, especially in GCP (Google Cloud Platform), for example tools such as Google BigQuery, Dataform, and other APIs
* possess experience of working in an agile, project-based environment, focussed on delivering user needs
* succeed in developing implementation strategy, roadmaps, measurement frameworks, instrumentation, quality assurance, administration and analysis
* understand and have practical experience of using different data tools to transform and analyse different data sets. Understanding of and practical experience with data analysis and visualisation tools, e.g. Looker Studio or Tableau and languages e.g. SQL or python.
* can gather and understand technical requirements. Is able to work collaboratively with developers and other data professions to support building suitable technical solutions such as analytics tracking or data pipelines
* demonstrates strong attention to detail when working with data to ensure accuracy and reliability

Office attendance

The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.

DSIT does not normally offer full home working (i.e. working at home); but we do offer a variety of flexible working options (including occasionally working from home).

Selection process details


The standard selection process for roles at GDS consists of:

* a simple application screening process - We only ask for a CV and two role specific questions
* Initial Screening - 30 minutes video call to discuss application
* 60 minute interview by video call, this includes a task. The information of the task will be sent to all selected candidates in advance

Depending on how many applications we get, there might also be an extra stage before the video interview, for example a phone interview or a technical exercise.

In the event we receive a high volume of applications, we will conduct the initial sift against the lead criteria which is:

* can demonstrate strong proficiency with digital analytics platforms, such as Google Analytics (specifically GA4) working with high volumes of data.

Candidates that do not pass the interview but have demonstrated an acceptable standard may be considered for similar roles at a lower grade.
