Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) is a fantastic place to work. The service provides a friendly and welcoming environment, developing people, and helping them to reach their goals.
As a team our aim is to engage and educateChildren and Young People (CYP). It is our desire that the quality of CYP provision is high, safe, engaging and achieves measurable outcomes for the children and young people, the organisation and contributes towards making our communities safer. All CYP activities are centred around a holistic approach to supporting young people and in turn, reducing risk.
We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate youth worker to join the CYP team as one of our Early Intervention (EI) and Firewise Practitioners.
The FireWise Intervention Programme works with higher risk children and young people up to the age of 18, who have been identified as needing 1:1 support and family intervention, for fire setting behaviours. The successful applicant would be responsible for delivering intervention sessions at an age:appropriate level tailored to the individual's needs to help them understand their feeling and the circumstances around their fire setting behaviours, while highlighting not only the dangers associated with fire but also the consequences of their actions on themselves and the whole community.
Our EI programmes are designed to work with vulnerable children and young people who are more likely to be at risk of various types of harm, both now and in their future. Our EI programmes help young people to develop resilience, achieve goals, positively impact their community and keep themselves and others safe. The successful applicant would develop and deliver a curriculum of personal social and emotional sessions, designed to enhance CYP's protective factors to increase their ability to cope with life's challenges, so they are more resilient and less likely to need or instigate Blue Light services or be involved in deliberate fire setting, ASB, violence or become a victim of harm.
The post:holder must have experience of intervention work and working with and developing children and young people facing a range of issues from different backgrounds and be a positive role model to young people. Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to communicate confidently and effectively are important along with being able to work on their own initiative in an engaging and imaginative way to promote high:quality delivery. Specialist training delivered by an external provider would need to be completed upon commencing the role.
The time split between EI and Firewise workstreams would be dependent on demand. Regular travel across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will be required to complete both dual elements of the role.
