Job Title: Assistant Headteacher
Location: Baston House School, Bromley, Kent BR2 7AB
Salary: £45,000 - £52,000 per annum (not pro rata)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Contract: Fixed Term ending July 2026; Term Time Only
Start: October 2025

As part of our continued growth in service, we are looking for an experienced Assistant Headteacher to join Baston House School on a fixed-term basis.
We are part of Outcomes First Group and operate a 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) trial where you can work one day less each week (or equivalent hours) while receiving full-time pay. The 4DWW is subject to probation and is not a contractual benefit.
About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader who is passionate about delivering high-quality education in a specialist setting for pupils with varied needs. Working alongside the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide clear, authentic leadership, support the development of individualised learning programmes, uphold the school’s safeguarding culture, and contribute strategically to the growth and success of the school. You will have the opportunity to inspire and guide a multidisciplinary team, develop school-wide policies and practices, and ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and pastoral care. This role offers the chance to be innovative, creative, and impactful, helping every pupil reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and direction to teaching and support staff, promoting high standards across the school.
* Collaborate with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement the school’s vision, aims, and objectives.
* Support curriculum planning and delivery, ensuring individualised learning pathways for pupils with complex needs.
* Uphold the school’s safeguarding practices and act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (training provided).
* Monitor and evaluate teaching, learning, and pupil progress, providing guidance, feedback, and mentoring to staff.
* Contribute to strategic planning, school improvement initiatives, and performance management.
* Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe environment that encourages pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Who We’re Looking For
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and degree level education.
* Experience working in an SEN or specialist educational setting.
* Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
* Strong understanding of safeguarding, SEMH, and inclusive practices.
* Passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of young people.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
* Resilient, innovative, and able to lead with empathy and vision.

Baston House is an independent day specialist provider of education and care for young people and adults aged 5 to 19 years who have been diagnosed with Autism (ASC). We work to create a safe school where pupils are included in every aspect of school life and well-being is promoted through a strong sense of community cohesion.
