Job Overview
1. The Operations Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of engineering maintenance services across a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, ensuring that all activities are safe, compliant, reliable, and aligned to GMP and client standards.
The role oversees planned, reactive, and remedial maintenance, ensuring that assets, utilities, and systems remain operationally available, compliant, and fit for purpose, while driving performance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
The Operations Manager is the key interface between engineering delivery teams and the client, accountable for operational performance, service excellence, and governance.
Main Duties
2. 1. Service Delivery & Operational Performance
Lead the delivery of: Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Reactive and corrective maintenance Minor works and engineering changes Ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual requirements Maintain continuity of operations across shift patterns and critical systems
2. GMP & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all maintenance activities comply with: GMP / GxP standards Statutory and regulatory requirements Client-specific procedures and SOPs Maintain full audit readiness and documentation compliance
3. Asset Reliability & Maintenance Strategy
Drive asset performance through: Effective PPM execution Use of predictive and condition-based maintenance strategies Monitor asset trends and implement improvements to: Reduce downtime Improve reliability Extend asset lifecycle
4. Leadership of Engineering Teams
Manage and develop: Maintenance managers / supervisors Engineers and technicians Ensure teams are: Competent and trained Resourced appropriately for workload demands Promote a high-performance, accountable culture
5. Contractor & Supply Chain Management
Oversee subcontractors delivering specialist services Ensure compliance with: Safety standards Quality requirements Performance expectations Drive value for money while maintaining compliance and safety
6. Planning, Scheduling & Work Control
Ensure effective planning and coordination of: Maintenance schedules Shutdowns and outages Critical interventions Use CAFM / asset systems to: Track work orders Monitor performance Improve planning accuracy
7. Performance Management & Reporting
Define and monitor KPIs including: PPM compliance Reactive response times Asset uptime SLA/service performance Provide regular operational reporting to: Account leadership Client stakeholders
8. Safety, Risk & Compliance Management
Ensure safe execution of all engineering activities in partnership with SHE Oversee implementation of: Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) Permit to Work (PTW) systems Actively manage operational risks and escalate issues where required
9. Financial & Commercial Management
Manage operational budgets, including: Labour Materials Subcontractor costs Ensure delivery of services within financial targets Identify efficiency opportunities and cost savings
10. Stakeholder & Client Management
Act as the primary operational interface with the client Build strong relationships with: Site operations teams Quality, SHE, and compliance functions Lead operational reviews and governance forums

11. Continuous Improvement
Drive improvements in: Maintenance strategy Reliability and uptime Process efficiency Promote use of: Lean principles Data-driven decision making Embed a culture of innovation and improvement
What we are looking for
3. Degree or equivalent in Engineering (or relevant discipline)Significant experience in: Engineering maintenance delivery Pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing environments Strong knowledge of: GMP / GxP Asset management systems Maintenance strategies (PPM, predictive) Leadership experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams
