Overview
Our OEM client based in Coventry is searching for an EDS CAD Design Engineer to join their team. This is a contract position under IR35, with a proposed end date of October 2026.
Responsibilities
* Create 3D CAD models for LV and HV harnesses using CATIA V6, collaborating with Electrical, Chassis, and Powertrain design teams.
* Design and package EDS wire harnesses and associated components to required electrical modelling standards.
* Prepare documentation for internal use and customer use for electrical installations.
* Support virtual build events and packaging activities to ensure harnesses meet cost and weight targets while maintaining design robustness.
* Oversee the release of parts and assembly structures into the bill of materials, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
* Support customer compatibility reviews and follow up required actions.
* Lead prototype builds and provide engineering support for vehicle/system commissioning, fault finding and diagnosis.
* Provide innovative ideas and analyze benchmarked data to support the business.
* Ensure project documentation is correctly managed, maintained, and released in accordance with company processes and standards.
* Manage project level engineering change control activity.
* Generate and control project engineering electrical BOMs.
* Deliver engineering tasks in line with project milestones.
Technical Summary
* Excellent knowledge of general automotive engineering vehicle technologies.
* Experienced and certified using CATIA V5 and Teamcenter.
* Experienced in part Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance.
* Knowledge of LV electrical systems.
* Experience with connection systems, distribution, harnessing, cabling and data communication systems.
* Sound knowledge of electrical principles, materials selection and manufacturing techniques.
* Good knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle technologies, including HV batteries, contactors, fuses, distribution, HVIL, PDU's, motors, inverters, chargers and converters.

* Adhere to EHS procedures and policies to ensure compliance.
Qualifications, Functional Experience & Skills
* A degree or similar in an electrical engineering discipline.
* Minimum of 8 years' experience in an automotive background.
* Proven experience designing and drafting all types of harnesses (HV, 48V, 12V and communications).
* Excellent knowledge of harness assembly processes.
* Experience in automotive electrical systems design and prototype development.
* Experience in HV and LV EDS development – 3D wiring harness routing.
* Proven track record of delivering technical objectives to quality targets and milestones.
System Knowledge
* Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office applications.
* Experience with electrical system capital software.
