Occupational Therapist – Trauma & Orthopaedics
Join East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust as a band 6 Occupational Therapist in the Trauma and Orthopaedics in‑patient therapy team. This is a permanent, part‑time role (18.75 hours per week) with a salary of £38,682 to £46,580 a year pro‑rata.
Job Summary
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team across the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards, collaborating with band 7, 6, 5, 4, and 3 Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists. The role offers extensive CPD opportunities, regular supervision, and support for progression, including potential development from band 5 to band 6.
Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, treat and evaluate holistic therapy interventions for patients in the Trauma and Orthopaedic wards.
* Work independently and delegate appropriately to band 4 assistant practitioners.
* Contribute to service development and support staff through the appraisal process.
* Collaborate closely with physiotherapists in patient rehabilitation.
Qualifications
* BSc Occupational Therapy.
* HCPC Registration.
* Member of COT (desirable).
Essential Skills
* Highly developed clinical skills in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
Desirable Skills
* Evidence of working within an acute inpatient setting.
* Competent presentation skills.
Experience
* At least 18 months post‑graduate experience in relevant specialist inpatient area.
* Proven record of delivering high‑quality intervention for high‑risk patients.
* Experience working within a fast‑paced setting.
Desirable Experience
* Experience managing challenging situations.
* Experience within an acute inpatient setting (repeat).
Knowledge
* Awareness of professional issues and recent developments in the NHS and Primary Care, including Clinical Governance, NICE, and CQC.
* Knowledge of up‑to‑date evidence‑based practice.
* Knowledge of discharge pathways.
Desirable Knowledge
* Experience with complex assessments and discharge planning.
* Use of appropriate outcome measures linked to orthopaedic assessment.
* Knowledge of the extended role of Occupational Therapy within discharge pathways.
