As part of our vibrant, friendly and inclusive team, you will be based in the CT & MRI departments, which currently consist of 2 Siemens 1.5T MRI on the hospital site, 1 GE 1.5T voyager MRI at a CDC site and 3 on‑site Canon CT scanners. There is also a new Imaging Scanning Centre due for completion in spring 2026.
Essential qualifications include excellent communication and organisational skills, a dedication to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and practical knowledge of radiation protection, legislation, and health and safety requirements.

As a vital team member, you will contribute to delivering a proactive, first‑class diagnostic service, ensuring exceptional patient care aligned with the Trust's core values, whilst upholding high clinical standards. You will be expected to assist with training for junior staff and learners, as well as supporting the team leaders. Our department currently trains students from the University of Hertfordshire and apprentice radiographers studying at the University of Exeter.
To work a rotation through the MRI and CT departments conducting cross‑sectional examinations using a range of MRI and CT equipment upon various patient types; both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi‑professional team, in a manner that meets profession, departmental and legal standards and requirements.
To proactively assist in the management of the MRI and CT scanning departments on a daily basis whilst fostering a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating all patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity, and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.

Job responsibilities
Clinical:
* Work unsupervised, performing all CT, MR scans following imaging parameters set down in scanning protocols.
* Liaise with referral source where clarification is required regarding the selection of the most clinically appropriate imaging examination and prioritise cases by urgent clinical need.
* Act as a professional resource regarding CT, MR procedures for other directorate staff and clinical colleagues.
* Act as a point of advice for patient enquiries regarding their referral.
* Be fully aware of the potential hazards of working in an area of strong magnetic field and be familiar with the Safety Guidelines for Magnetic Resonance Diagnostic Imaging Equipment in Clinical Use; Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) December 2007.
Managerial responsibilities:
* Deputise in the absence of senior staff such as section heads for CT & MR or band 7 radiographers and be responsible for the smooth day‑to‑day running of the CT & MRI department.
* Be familiar with the range of technical applications available on imaging equipment.
* Monitor and report equipment faults and determine the severity of the problem and its probable impact on the workload. To make a balanced judgement on when to call in a service engineer, considering the effect on the normal running of the CT/MR Service.
* Liaise with equipment suppliers regarding the attendance of an engineer at a suitable time in the event of minor faults or immediately in the event of total equipment failure.
* Re‑arrange the work list in event of equipment failure, being responsive to the inconvenience caused to patients by short notice cancellation of appointments.
Communication:
* Assess specific communication needs of individual patients. Anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of the MRI safety checklist impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained.
* Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts before, during and after an examination.
Analytical and Judgmental Skills:
* Use analytical and judgement skills with regard to the interpretation of clinical information. Advise radiologists of the technical capabilities of the CT and MRI scanners and suggest appropriate sequences to better demonstrate a variety of common pathologies.
Responsibilities for Human Resources:
* Assist in the supervision and clinical instruction of undergraduate radiographic staff.
* Undertake formalised assessments of undergraduate students and document findings in accordance with each academic institution's requirements.
* Supervise and act as trainer for rotating radiographic staff.
* Deliver appropriate structured / informal training to radiographic colleagues, other members of the trust and students on work experience, as appropriate.
* Evaluate technology and its clinical application.
* Take a lead in setting and monitoring of standards in own area.
* Undertake any audit data collection and analysis required of the post.

Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
* BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
* Health and Care Professions Council Registration
* Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel)
* Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
* Knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures
* Evidence of keeping informed of the current CT/MRI imaging techniques and practices
* Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR '17 and associated codes of practice)
* Possesses 6‑month post qualification knowledge and experience as a radiographer.
* UK radiographer work experience
