Job Summary
The Hepatology Assistant is a dynamic and multifaceted role that supports the clinical and administrative functions within the Hepatology Team. The successful candidate will support the HCC Co‑ordinator in coordinating patient care, managing data and reporting statistics, performing general administrative duties, and carrying out clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, patient education and fibroscan operation.
Responsibilities
* Collate and report patient data.
* Maintain and update the clinical database.
* Attend meetings and multidisciplinary team (MDT) sessions.
* Deliver patient education face‑to‑face or by phone.
* Operate fibroscan machinery and assist in clinic delivery.
* Perform phlebotomy.
* Work across multiple sites and travel as required due to service developments.
* Provide clinic support for the Hepatology service, including blood tests and fibroscan procedures, and complete all relevant documentation.
Qualifications & Requirements
* GCSE or equivalent level 2 functional skills in maths and English.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience working in a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
* Computer literate.
* Car driver with access to a car.
* Ability to work across multiple sites.
* Access to vulnerable people in normal duties – this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 requirements and disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Desirable Criteria
* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Business Administration or equivalent.
* Experience working within a Hepatology Service.
* Experience within the NHS.
* Knowledge of cancer provision within the NHS.
* Experience of multi‑professional working and knowledge of medical terminology.
* Exemplary written communication skills.
