Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in a vibrant occupational therapy department as a static senior occupational therapist working with major trauma patients. The post holder will be required to effectively and creatively deliver high quality occupational therapy services to patients with neurological, orthopaedic and major trauma conditions. The successful candidate will carry a full case load of major trauma patients without direct supervision whilst developing supervisory and project/service delivery skills. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, division, occupational therapy department and the major trauma service.


Main duties of the job

To provide specialised occupational therapy advice in relation to care of patients with a range of psycho-social, physical and emotional problems including terminal illness, working in an acute setting. To ensure safe, effective and efficient occupational therapy practice within your field of practice. To complete all stages of the OT process.

To participate and/or take the lead on service development.

To maintain an awareness of current developments within the field of practice, disseminate information, and ensure that your practice and that of other therapists in your team is based on the best available evidence.

To balance clinical priorities and professional demands, and ensure that these remain in accordance with the service policies.

Person specification


Qualifications

* Occupational Therapist registered with Health and Care Professions Council
* Degree of Diploma of Occupational Therapy
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development
* Willing to undertake fieldwork educators training
* Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
* Member of Specialist Section / Special Interest Group


Experience

* Experience in this specialist field of practice
* Teaching experience
* Varied clinical experience
* Experience of working in either NHS or social care
* Evidence of student supervision
* Experience in moving and handling
* Experience in administering and analysing standardise cognitive assessments
* Experience of supervision of Occupational Therapy Assistants and students
* Supervision of band 5 OTs
* Experience of giving presentations
* Experience of working in an acute care hospital
* Experience in tonal management including splinting
* Experience in assessing the upper limb
* Experience in major trauma including working with Disorders of Conciousness (DOC) patients and patients presenting with Post-traumatic Amnesia (PTA).


Knowledge

* To be competent in all stages of the OT process
* Working knowledge of a range of clinical conditions
* Experience of audit/EBP/research process
* Knowledge of government documents and legislation relating to healthcare, social care, housing and education
* Knowledge of rehabilitation and the role of occupational therapy.
* Knowledge of service development


Skills
