Position Purpose
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the production of electrical control assemblies, including Motor Control Centres (MCCs), junction boxes, control panels, and related wiring systems. This role focuses on optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with electrical standards, improving product quality, and supporting continuous improvement efforts on the production floor.
Responsibilities
* Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and layout drawings.
* Collaborate with electrical design engineers to ensure manufacturability of MCCs, junction boxes, and custom electrical assemblies.
* Create or update manufacturing documentation, including assembly instructions, BOMs, and build standards.
* Support engineering change orders (ECOs) and documentation control.
* Develop and optimize build processes for MCCs, junction boxes, and custom electrical assemblies.
* Establish and refine standard work for panel assembly, wire routing, labelling, and quality inspection.
* Specify tools, fixtures, and equipment to improve assembly efficiency and repeatability.
* Evaluate new manufacturing technologies
* Provide real-time technical support to assemblers
* Troubleshoot electrical build issues including wiring errors, component fit problems, and layout conflicts.
* Conduct root cause analysis for nonconformance and implement corrective actions.
* Ensure builds comply with applicable standards.
* Develop and maintain testing procedures, including continuity checks, hi-pot testing, functional testing, and final inspection.
* Lead internal audits to ensure compliance with quality standards.
* Analyse workflows and implement improvements using Lean tools (5S, Kaizen, value stream mapping).
* Reduce waste, rework, wiring errors, and assembly bottlenecks.
* Participate in cost-reduction initiatives (component standardization, optimized wiring practices, layout improvements).
* Work with supply chain teams on electrical components
* Support new product introduction (NPI) for new product lines.
* Coordinate with quality, design engineering, and operations on production readiness.
Position Requirements
* Electrical Engineering Knowledge
* Strong understanding of MCC components
* Expertise in wiring practices, grounding, cable management, and enclosure layout optimization.
* Familiarity with Standards such as UL508A, UKCA/CE
* Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and panel layouts.
* Experience with panel building, junction box wiring, and industrial electrical components.
* Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, EPLAN).
* Knowledge of manufacturing workflows, documentation, and ERP systems.
* Lean Six Sigma Green belt and above
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
* Effective communication with production staff and cross-functional teams.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
