Consultant Haematologist with specialist interests in Malignant Haematology and Cellular Therapies

Applications are invited for this full time Consultant Haematology post based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. This is an exciting opportunity to join the current team of 12 consultants. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a major interest in the haematological malignancies, especially cellular therapies, and will take an active part in clinical research. The successful candidates will be expected to develop the service within the context of the current interests of the department.

The Haematology department has five specialist registrar posts and two specialty doctor posts.

The post holders will take part in the on-call rota for the adult Haematology service, and will cover the Haematology inpatients in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, provide advice to colleagues in primary and secondary care, and cover the Haematology laboratory (currently 1 in 7 with prospective cover).

Aberdeen Royal Infirmary serves a population of approximately 632,000 and is located at the Foresterhill site, together with the University of Aberdeen Medical School, the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Transfusion centre, Roxburghe House, the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The dedicated Haematology inpatient unit opened in 2013 and comprises 23 beds. The Haematology outpatient department and day therapy unit were refurbished in early 2010. A new combined Haematology and Oncology outpatient and day therapy facility, the ANCHOR centre, is due to open in 2026 and will be immediately adjacent to the radiotherapy unit on the Foresterhill site.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
