About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Electrical Estimator to join our team and play a key role in the preparation, submission, and negotiation of tenders for a wide range of electrical projects. The successful candidate will combine technical expertise with commercial awareness to deliver accurate costings and competitive bids, ensuring projects are both profitable and aligned with client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Review and interpret client specifications and drawings (including WIMES, civil, and engineering).
2. Prepare accurate cost estimates using schedules, labour fit times, and market intelligence.
3. Ensure all tenders comply with statutory and non-statutory regulations, including IEE Wiring Regulations, Electricity at Work Regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM, COSHH, and NICEIC rules.
4. Carry out detailed technical analysis, including cable calculations, discrimination principles, lighting/emergency lighting design, lightning/surge protection, and ATEX considerations.
5. Select appropriate equipment and materials in line with tender requirements.
6. Liaise effectively with project managers, engineers, and site electricians to ensure smooth handover and delivery.
7. Monitor workload, site conditions, job locations, competition, and market prices to produce commercially competitive tenders.
8. Contribute to tender submissions, variations, day works pricing, applications, and final accounts.
9. Participate in site visits and client meetings to ensure scope and specifications are fully understood.
10. Support cash flow forecasting, project cost monitoring, and value engineering initiatives.
Core Competencies
11. Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, design software (Trimble/Amtech ProDesign), and estimating tools.
12. In-depth understanding of British and European Standards and industry codes of practice.
13. Ability to interpret 2D drawings into 3D concepts and apply practical judgement.
14. Excellent numeracy, organisational, and management skills.
15. Commercially astute, with experience of contract types, tender agreements, and employment law.
16. Consistency, attention to detail, and strong problem-solving skills.
Peripheral Skills
17. Competent in Microsoft Office and other business software (estimating, design, accounts/project costing).
18. Effective communicator with clients, colleagues, and suppliers.
19. Confident in presentations, negotiations, and client-facing activities.
