Job Overview
We recognise that Medical Examiner Officers (MEOs) are integral to the Medical Examiner Service, supporting the timely scrutiny of deaths that occur at our acute hospitals or in the community. This role is cross‑site; the successful candidate will work at both Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital on a rostered basis, using the free staff shuttle bus between sites.
Responsibilities
Working alongside other MEOs to support medical examiners in scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death in accordance with current legislation.
To be a point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals, registration services and the coroner’s office.
Communicate effectively with bereaved families, providing compassionate support and clear information.
Collaborate with the wider trust teams to ensure deaths are examined and certified accurately and in a timely manner.
Maintain thorough documentation and reporting in the new electronic patient record system, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
Qualifications
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to speak sensitively with bereaved families.
Experience in a medical examination, pathology, or related clinical environment is desirable.
Good understanding of current death certification legislation and practice.
