Supervising assistant psychologists and psychology graduates (Therapeutic Practitioners) to provide psychological interventions. To be responsible for assessments (including risk assessments), formulation and recommendations for psychological support. Formulation and delivery of care plans involving psychological treatment and management of cases.
Main duties of the job
We are keen to hear from qualified psychologists who are interested in working with children and young people with mental health problems, those who have experienced trauma and other adverse childhood experiences, including Looked After Children. Ideally you will be confident to work independently as a Clinical Psychologist under supervision of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and within a multidisciplinary team that includes Psychiatry, OT, Nursing, Teachers. You will be confident to supervise, train and oversee the work of others to improve psychologically informed practices within the home. The post is advertised for a maximum of 32 hours part time, flexible and weekdays only.
Job Role
We are seeking to recruit suitably qualified Clinical Psychologists (NHS band 78a equivalent posts) to join our team, and can offer varied and rewarding work in a number of contexts—with an opportunity to help shape the service and drive improvements. Cambian Meeko House is a 12-bedded children’s residential home for 12–18-year-olds with ongoing mental health needs and challenging behaviours. There is a school (Home Tree School) on site to support the educational needs of the young people. The post involves providing a range of psychological interventions, supervising staff, and contributing to multidisciplinary care planning.
The clinical psychologist will be part of a wider MDT and will have access to a Consultant Psychologist working at our sister site in Newmarket.
Job responsibilities
* Provide a range of psychological interventions for children and young people using evidence-based practices.
* Supervise assistant psychologists and psychology graduates (Therapeutic Practitioners) delivering psychological interventions.
* Be responsible for assessments (including risk assessments), formulation and recommendations for psychological support.
* Formulate and deliver care plans involving psychological treatment and management of cases.
* Train and guide support staff to provide psychologically informed practices across the home.
* Implement a range of evidence-based psychological interventions, evaluate treatment options, and monitor outcomes for your caseload, while supporting/supervising other practitioners.
* Participate in evidence-based recommendations to the multidisciplinary team regarding assessment, interventions and skills required to deliver the plan of care and expected health/social outcomes while minimising risk.
* Maintain clinical records in line with Cambian policies and procedures; attend and contribute to CMAP and multidisciplinary meetings.
* Maintain adherence to NICE guidelines and best practice clinical standards.
* Participate in regular clinical supervision and service development initiatives.
Eligibility and placement details include working within Cambian Meeko House and access to a Consultant Psychologist at a sister site.
Person Specification
Postgraduate qualifications and registration
* Post graduate doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology (or equivalent)
* HCPC registration
General requirements
* Experience/knowledge of safeguarding legislation for children and adults
* Experience/knowledge of routine clinical outcomes monitoring
* Experience/knowledge of clinical risk assessment
* An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills
* Competent IT skills
* Ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise workload
* Strong literacy and report writing skills with accuracy and attention to detail
* Experience of managing complex caseloads and applying a range of interventions
Experience in delivering specialist assessments in Autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, complex needs and/or challenging behaviours, and knowledge of developmental trauma and supporting families with looked-after/adopted children, is desirable.
