Offer description

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports. Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the government’s immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. It also aims to disrupt the organised criminal groups that exploit the vulnerable for their personal gain. Learn more on our careers pages. The operational arms of the Home Office rely on high quality data, management information and analysis to carry out their roles. Our Management Information teams build datasets and provide products which take operational data and turn it into outputs to inform management and policy decision-making, more complex analysis, and internal and external accountability. These roles sit within Border Force, which is a law enforcement arm of the Home Office, responsible for handling the UK border controls by implementing immigration and customs regulations and working within the wider Home Office on counter terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery and trafficking. If you are successful in this campaign, you will also be eligible for similar roles in MI teams supporting other areas of Home Office operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team that provides high quality data and reports about the performance and productivity of the UK Border to many different customers: from those working at the border; to senior officials and ministers across Government; to industry, Parliament, and the public. The team is responsible for the maintenance and continuous development of MI reporting products that inform operational, policy and strategic decisions. It supports critical Border Force management decisions, as well as providing rapid response support to critical incidents and major events. This is an opportunity to work on the cutting-edge of Borders data and shape the future of reporting in this area. We place a high value on individual development and improvement and provide opportunities for upskilling and regular training to support your personal growth. We are an instinctively inclusive team who will support those looking to deepen their data, analytical and technical skillsets. These roles provide an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, exciting and continually evolving environment. It offers the chance to engage with projects across the department, to understand and deliver reporting requirements both short and long term and to see first-hand how the Home Office and external bodies use and interact with key performance information. Key responsibilities Main responsibilities include but not limited to: Providing ongoing maintenance of regular MI reporting. Identifying appropriate data to respond to ad-hoc business requests. Supporting the development of new MI reporting products on Borders and Immigration activity and performance. Supporting the delivery of change requests or issue resolution to reporting products within your domain area. Supporting the embedding of new technologies and contribute to a continuous review of processes and products to recognise where improvements can be made. Understanding customer requirements to complete the work needed to develop and maintain MI products. Extracting, analysing and manipulating data to support business decision-making and creating and maintaining reports using Microsoft Power BI. These posts are open to everyone and are ‘non-badged’. However, this position would be suitable for statisticians and operational researchers looking to further their career in a related area. Working Pattern This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days per week due to business requirements.
