Location: Gatwick Airport
Hours: Monday–Friday 7:30am–5:00pm (flexibility for night shifts 7:30pm–5:00am + overtime)
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Smart Building Infrastructure Technician to join a dedicated team at Gatwick Airport.
You will be responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and support of smart building technologies across the airport estate. This role requires strong experience in copper and fibre ICT infrastructure, alongside a willingness to work across multiple technologies including Electronic Security, Audio-Visual, IoT, and Wired/Wireless Networks.
You will play a key role in delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget, maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
ICT & Network Infrastructure
*
Install, terminate, and test copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A), fibre optic cabling (OS1/2, OM3/4/5) and voice cabling (CW1308).
*
Install and test cabling for Electronic Security and Audio-Visual systems.
*
Conduct certification testing using Fluke test equipment and LinkWare software.
*
Ensure compliance with manufacturer, customer, and industry standards (e.g., BSEN 50346).
Smart Building Systems Installation
*
Build and install telecommunications cabinets (pre-built and flat-pack).
*
Install containment systems including tray, basket, trunking, and conduit.
*
Install and mount end-point devices including:
*
CCTV cameras
*
Access control systems (doors, maglocks, break glass units, sounder beacons)
*
Wi-Fi & mobile access points
*
IoT sensors
*
Audio-visual equipment
*
Install and patch network equipment including servers, switches, routers, controllers, and WAN equipment.
Maintenance & Fault Finding
*
Support commissioning teams with maintenance, servicing, and fault rectification.
*
Diagnose and repair network infrastructure faults.
*
Assist with decommissioning and equipment relocation.
Documentation & Reporting
*
Complete accurate documentation and certification.
*
Report progress and issues via agreed systems and processes.
*
Interpret drawings, schematics, and project documentation.
About You
Essential Experience
*
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar infrastructure role.
*
Proven experience installing copper and fibre ICT cabling systems.
*
Experience using Fluke DTX 5000 and OTDR test equipment.
*
Experience working with containment systems (tray, basket, conduit, trunking).
*
Knowledge of wired and wireless network architecture.
Qualifications
Essential
*
Valid ECS/CSCS Card.
*
CNet (CNCI/CNIT), BICSI Level 2/3 or recognised equivalent.
*
Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
*
IPAF or PASMA.
*
First Aid qualification.
*
5 GCSEs (A*–C), including Maths and English
