To support the care, welfare, and education of children and young people with additional support needs (ASN) in accordance with relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines.
A Learning Support Worker may work with any child or group of children within a department, mainstream class, or early learning and childcare (ELC) setting. They may work alongside or under guidance from any teacher within a school. Work may be based on an individualised education programme (IEP), which all staff working with the child or young person follow. This may involve collaboration with professionals such as Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Educational Psychologists, and members of the Educational Outreach Service.
Specific tasks of the Learning Support Worker include:
1. Working effectively as a member of the staff team;
2. Promoting and valuing each child, supporting their inclusion and welfare;
3. Supporting the delivery of a quality curriculum in a mainstream setting where a child/young person is included;
4. Interacting appropriately with children/young people to meet their individual education and care needs, including assisting with feeding, toileting, and personal hygiene tasks;
5. Following instructions regarding the implementation of IEPs;
6. Evaluating tasks as per the IEP, maintaining accurate records, and reporting progress to teachers;
7. Supervising children/young people during activities both in and out of school.
Aith Junior High School is a non-denominational school located in Aith, Shetland. * The grade of this post is F/G.
* Please note that this job is not career graded. Successful candidates will be employed as either Qualified or Unqualified Learning Support Workers. During selection, candidates will be assessed against the person specification to determine their role and corresponding salary/rate of pay. The Job Profile documents detail these roles further.
* The pay rate includes a Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4808 per hour.
* This is a permanent part-time position, 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, plus 6.24 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday during school holidays.
* Preferred candidates will need to join or update their membership in the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to employment.
