Salary: £28,163 - £37,035 per annum (dependant on experience)
Salary: Grade 5-7 Career Graded dependent on experience.
SCP: Starting at 13 up to 27 (dependent on experience).

The Environmental Protection Team (Housing & Environmental Health) are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to join them and be part of a friendly and supportive team dealing with all aspects of Environmental Protection and associated statutory functions/duties across the Tendring district. The post is a full-time position that offers a variety of different work across various aspects of Environmental Protection, whilst linking with other teams within the Environmental Health Service area.
Prior experience in a similar role is not essential, but any applicant must have an interest in Environmental Health, as well as good scientific knowledge, and a desire to make a difference for the residents of the district. The successful candidate will be afforded the opportunity to undertake the relevant training for the role and ensure that the team continue to provide high quality service delivery to the residents of our district.
TDC recognises the importance the team have in protecting Public Health and wellbeing and is committed in addressing issues and raising standards further using legislative powers where necessary. Championing our local environment is recognised as one of the Council’s key priorities and the Service is looking for an individual with a desire to make a difference and ensure that we undertake our statutory functions successfully, whilst having an appreciation of the wider determinants of public health and how we as an Authority can make improvements.
The role will entail all aspects covered by the Environmental Protection Team including both proactive and reactive interventions and to provide support to the Environmental Protection Manager and existing Environmental Health professionals who work in the team. The following are areas of work the successful candidate can expect to undertake:
* Deal with Accumulation of refuse.
* Investigation of public health complaints.
* Formal enforcement action associated with all statutory nuisances, including noise from licenced premises.
* Public Health Funerals and associated procedures.
* Assisting in the undertaking of risk assessments and sampling of Private Water Supplies.
* Assisting in the undertaking of issuing Permits for Prescribed Processes.
* Assisting in the undertaking of risk assessments associated with aspects of Contaminated Land including remediation.
* Air Quality Monitoring and recording data obtained following laboratory analysis.
The position is ideally suited to an individual who believes they meet the aforementioned criteria and someone who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They will need to be able to deal with potentially confrontational situations and have the necessary skills to remain calm and polite, whilst conveying legislative requirements in a robust but fair manner.

The position will include remote working in accordance with the Council’s Remote Working Policy and also includes the chance for flexible working in accordance with the Council’s Flexi – Time Policy.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide their own vehicle to enable them to carry out inspections across all parts of the district. Financial payment will be paid in accordance with the Council’s current policy.
