Senior Communications and Policy Manager – Interim opportunity
Location: Solihull – 2 days office/3 days home
Salary: Up to £70,000 (can be day rate equivalent or as FTC)
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced communications specialist, working in a role that makes a real impact within an organization at the forefront of skills for a greener world.
Our client is the voice of the sector, working with members, government, and regulators to address skills challenges within the utilities sector. They offer membership, assurance, and skills solutions to help employers attract, develop, and maintain a skilled workforce.
As the Senior Communications and Policy Manager, you will work at the Group level, reporting to the CEO and liaising with sales, membership, marketing teams, and other stakeholders to create and deliver a robust communications plan for the upcoming five-year strategy, launching in October. You should be comfortable working with high-level stakeholders, including government leaders.
Responsibilities include:
* Developing and implementing the communications plan, both externally and internally.
* Creating a strategic communications plan, including thought leadership, white papers, speaking opportunities, and media coverage.
* Executing the communications plan across channels like web, video, social media, PR, and events.
* Managing the production of policy documents, consultation responses, and inquiries.
* Preparing communications materials for political conferences and networking events.
* Developing and managing the organization's positioning and responses to sector policies at various government levels, ensuring message consistency.
Candidate background and experience:
* Proven experience in a senior communications and policy role.
* Background from public sector, utilities, training providers, or awarding organizations is preferred.
* Experience in external communications, external affairs, and policy is essential.
* Ability to present and speak at high-profile events, including government briefings.
* Influential with strong relationship-building skills.
* Willingness to work from Solihull office two days a week with flexibility to travel.
This role is initially interim for approximately six months, available as a fixed-term contract or day rate freelance. There is potential for the role to become permanent for the right candidate on a temp-to-perm basis.
