HSE Manager
Purpose of the Role
We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead Health, Safety and Environmental performance across our projects. This role will act as the primary HSE representative on site, working closely with project teams, stakeholders, and the supply chain to ensure full compliance with legal requirements, company standards, and industry best practice.
The HSE Manager will play a key role in driving a proactive safety culture, delivering environmental and sustainability objectives, and supporting the successful delivery of infrastructure and construction projects.
Key Objectives
1. Act as the HSE lead on projects, providing day-to-day support to site teams
2. Ensure compliance with legal, client, and ISO standards across health, safety, and environmental disciplines
3. Meet client, stakeholder, legislative, and internal HSE requirements
4. Support and implement the company’s safety and sustainability strategy
5. Promote a strong, positive safety culture across the business
Role Accountabilities
6. Lead HSE management across projects, ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and maintained
7. Develop and implement HSE Management Plans, including Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP) and project-specific safety and environmental plans
8. Conduct risk assessments, environmental aspect and impact assessments, and develop mitigation measures
9. Review method statements and risk assessments (RAMS) to ensure robust HSE controls are in place
10. Deliver training, toolbox talks, and briefings to site teams and supply chain partners
11. Manage environmental consents and permits and maintain an up-to-date register
12. Implement monitoring for air, water, noise, vibration, and safety performance where required
13. Carry out regular site inspections and audits, using internal systems to track actions and drive continuous improvement
14. Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes, and prepare reports and corrective actions
15. Liaise with regulators, clients, and stakeholders on HSE matters when required
16. Support internal and external audits alongside the Head Office HSE team
17. Ensure compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, and company standards
18. Prepare and present HSE performance reports to project leadership and senior management
19. Support tenders, PQQs, and work-winning activities with HSE input
20. Capture and share best practice and lessons learned across projects
Key Safety Responsibilities
21. Comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities as outlined in company policies
22. Promote a zero-harm culture and ensure safe working practices are embedded across all operations
23. Actively support continuous improvement in HSE performance
Required Experience and Qualifications
24. Minimum 5+ years’ experience in an HSE role within the construction or infrastructure sector
25. Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and ISO standards
26. Proven experience managing HSE on live construction or infrastructure projects
27. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence site teams and stakeholders
28. Degree or equivalent qualification in Health & Safety, Environmental, or related discipline (preferred)
29. NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent)
30. ISEP / IOSH membership preferred
