Avendale and Drumclog Church of Scotland is a vibrant and growing congregation with contemporary worship.It has recently developed a new vision and 3-year Strategic Framework.It is encouraged in the Presbytery Mission plan to develop further its missional work in the rural communities within the parish. The church has close connections with Gilmourton and Sandford primary schools with 15 volunteers currently providing informal pupil support through various projects. It has successfully trialled Messy Church events in both schools, hosted end-of-term events for the schools and a community Christmas Big Sing'.It aims to build on these arrangements, and in addition to develop a worshiping community within the rural areas.
1.JOB PURPOSE
To strengthen links between the church and rural community primarily by supporting, liaising and working in and with Sandford and Gilmourton Primary Schools and their learning communities.
To help develop and organise the team of volunteers in consultation with the Headteacher and Principal Teachers.
To help identify and respond to the needs of children and their families, especially in the rural communities in our parish.
To build up contacts and trust in the rural community and assist in developing and implementing an opt-in programme of faith & worship activities as appropriate.
To liaise, where appropriate, with other voluntary or statutory agencies within the community to achieve the above.
2.MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with the Christian framework of the Church of Scotland, promoting values of kindness, tolerance, understanding, justice, integrity and honesty underpins the approach to this role.
This ethos is supported by working within and ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory and best practice policies and ways of working including: health and safety; lone working; equal opportunities and safeguarding, including child protection procedures within Education Resources.
Community engagement
To work collaboratively with staff in Gilmourton and Sandford Primary Schools, providing support as agreed between the School and the Project Board/minister for around one day per week per school.
To facilitate engagement of children and young people in experiences around candidate's area of special interest or skill (music, mathematics, crafts, sports, gardening etc).
To complement and extend existing support for children, including those with additional support needs, to promote inclusion, wellbeing and wider experiences.
Supporting and helping to develop Drumclog Tots Group, with a view to developing other groups in the area.
Develop outreach possibilities focused on Drumclog Church as the base.
Congregational engagement
§To recruit, develop, support, lead and motivate the team of volunteers.
In conjunction with the minister, to work towards creating opportunities to explore, discover and deepen faith in the rural communities.
Team Work
§To meet regularly with the Community Engagement Project Board for strategic planning, direction and support.
§To record, monitor and evaluate as well as plan work.
Other tasks as required
As this is a new role, you will be required to respond positively to changing needs which may require you to carry out other mutually agreed tasks that are necessary to fulfil the job purpose.You will also be expected to use your initiative as required and share ideas you may have that may help shape the role.
Salary range: £14,000 - 16,000 per annum for 18-hour week.
Expenses:Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid in line with work directly associated with your employment and as agreed with the Project Board. The Employee will be entitled to claim 45p per mile for use of their own vehicle when necessary for travel for the purposes of the employment, other than between their residence and places of work. Mileage claims must be submitted to the Project Board identifying the purpose of the travel. The Employee's car must be insured for business use as well as private use.
