Are you able to effectively coordinate, manage and run outdoor environmental volunteering sessions both on land and on water?
What you'll be doing
You will promote and act as an advocate for volunteering in Parks and Open Spaces. You will plan, record, and deliver volunteering sessions on parks, open spaces, Grand Union Canal and the River Soar. The tasks are seasonal and can include, but are not exclusive to, litter picking, woodland management, tree planting, pond maintenance, path restoration, vegetation clearance and water-based activities such as bell boat and narrow boat litter picking sessions. You will work closely with volunteers, corporate groups, and school children, along with other stakeholders when the need arises. You will attend events and run information stalls, signposting potential volunteers to our service.
What you’ll need
You will have experience of working with the public, and a good understanding of horticultural, conservation and ecology tasks. You will have strong communication skills to be able to deliver presentations to various audiences. Using good leadership and interpersonal skills, you will be able to manage and support groups of inexperienced volunteers with a wide age range and differing abilities. As a highly self-motivated individual with excellent organisational skills, you will be able to work effectively on your own and without supervision.
What we can offer you
As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You will enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working. We will also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities. In addition, you can choose from several flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at our benefits calculator.
