The Generative Biology Institute (GBI) at EIT Oxford aims to revolutionize biology engineering by mastering genome synthesis and understanding DNA sequences for desired functions. Housing over 300 researchers across 30 groups, GBI is supported by cutting-edge facilities and funding to tackle global challenges and advance biological engineering.

Role Overview
We are seeking an Operations Manager to assist the COO in scaling GBI strategically, ensuring efficient operations that facilitate top-tier research. Responsibilities include managing special projects, supporting organizational strategy, and coordinating functions such as finance, legal, and lab planning. The role involves collaborating with scientific and facilities teams, implementing scalable processes, managing projects, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and alignment across initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the COO in strategic scaling and operational efficiency of GBI
* Assist in executing strategic initiatives and special projects, ensuring alignment across teams
* Contribute to organizational strategy by understanding scientific trends and identifying growth opportunities
* Coordinate operational functions including budgeting, legal matters, recruitment, communications, procurement, and lab space planning
* Work with scientific and facilities teams to understand requirements for lab setup and equipment
* Design and implement operational processes in collaboration with central EIT teams to ensure scalability and best practices
* Provide project management support, tracking timelines and milestones
* Manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, ensuring effective communication and coordination
* Act as a flexible operational point of contact to resolve issues and keep projects on track
* Manage external collaborations with academic institutions and research partners to ensure successful joint initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in life sciences, business operations, project management, or related field; research background preferred
* Experience supporting laboratory environments and understanding scientific workflows
* Operational experience in high-growth or research settings
* Support strategic planning with an interest in scientific innovation and organizational growth
* Experience in creating project management materials and managing budgets
* Excellent coordination, time management, and multitasking skills
* Proactive, self-directed, with problem-solving abilities
* Strong communication skills across scientific and administrative teams

Terms of Appointment
You must have the right to work permanently in the UK, be willing to travel as needed, and reside within easy commuting distance of Oxford. Flexibility and occasional long hours may be required, including work across multiple time zones.
