Mission
To manage design engineer(s) on a number of modules that will provide design solutions from initial concept through to product manufacture.
Responsibilities
* Manage the product maturity and development in the PLM system.
* Lead the design effort for packages of work or modules and develop/manage the tasks and deliverables of a team of design engineers.
* Maintain the engineering quality and integrity of the work produced within their module(s) or project.
* Design-check modules (2D, 3D, EBoMs) against internal standards and ensure technical accuracy prior to release.
* Design and detail model a variety of suite components to meet customer, regulatory and OEM requirements.
* Monitor, manage and meet cost and weight targets.
* Communicate effectively with customers and suppliers and manage data transfer as required for product development.
* Organise and participate in Design Reviews throughout each phase of the New Product Introduction process and follow up on actions.
* Ensure selection and application of materials and processes align with standards, guides and requirements.
* Ensure successful integration of each module within the product as a whole.
* Manage design changes to support manufacturing/production, customers, quality and certification.
* Contribute to Best Practice guidelines and lessons learnt as laid out in the Design Engineering Hub & business management systems.
* Generate and/or revise specifications as required.
* Coach, mentor, and develop less experienced design engineers (apprentices, graduates, etc.).
* Work towards achieving design signatory status.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential Degree in Mechanical / Aerospace / Structural Engineering or an equivalent qualification (e.g., HNC/HND) with extensive experience in mechanical systems design, developing concept and detailing engineering solutions.
* Essential Proficient with CATIA V5 (or other 3D CAD packages) and Product Life Management (PLM) systems.
* Essential Ability to plan and schedule design activities across multiple design modules.
* Essential Understanding of tolerances and working knowledge of manufacturing processes and OEM installation requirements.
* Essential Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, plastics vacuum forming, CNC machining.
* Essential Ability to read mechanical design drawings and specifications.
* Essential Experience using project management tools.
* Desirable Experience supervising a team of mechanical design engineers.
* Desirable Experience working with Boeing and Airbus interior specifications or other OEM specifications.
* Desirable Experience in New Model Introduction.
* Desirable Design signatory/approver.

* Essential Good communicator with customers/airframers/suppliers and integrated programme teams; able to clearly define expectations and gain understanding.
* Desirable Ability to advise and influence across functions.
