Main duties of the job: We are looking for a self‑motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our friendly team of Radiography Department Assistants.
About The Team
At UHS we have a large friendly team of radiographers, RDAs and RAPs with a wide range of experience working across the following departments:
Main X‑ray
This area provides general, fluoroscopy and mobile radiography for adult in‑patients and out‑patients. There are 3 DR X‑ray rooms, 2 state‑of‑the‑art digital fluoroscopy rooms, and a fleet of DR mobiles. There is also an Xograph DR dental imaging room.
Emergency X‑ray
This area provides adult and paediatric trauma radiography for the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Centre plus emergency and general theatre imaging. There are 3 DR X‑ray rooms, DR mobiles and a fleet of up‑to‑date image intensifiers undertaking a wide variety of complex imaging procedures.
Royal South Hants X‑ray
This satellite unit, near the city centre, provides imaging for adult outpatient clinics and GP referrals.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* To provide support during diagnostic imaging examinations.
* Communicate with and support radiographic, medical and nursing staff during the examination of patients.
* Comply with Infection Control and Prevention standards of the Trust, and ensure mandatory training is completed.
* Ensure safe patient care and welfare by assessment and monitoring.
* To provide support for imaging procedures involving preparation of sterile equipment and handling of body fluids.
* Use aseptic technique to lay trolleys for imaging procedures.
* Assist in the preparation of contrast media when necessary to the radiological examination.
* Carry out front line patient care for patients undergoing imaging procedures.
* Initiate basic life support when required.
* Moving and handling of patients including the handling of spinally compromised patients and equipment.
* Rotate to other sections of the Care Group where necessary to ensure continuation of essential services, within the boundaries of expertise, on an exceptional basis e.g. Major Incident, Hospital Incident.
* Personally aspire to maintain high ethical and professional standards in attitude at work.
* Using own initiative, deal with front line conflict or dispute with patients and /or carers, anxious about their condition and its consequences or the equipment and examination required.
* Report adverse incidents for advice or intervention by senior staff as appropriate.
* Ensure a clean and hygienic working environment.
* With training, assist in maintaining agreed stock levels of consumables.
* Assist in the collection and return of patients to wards or departments when required.
* Ensure adherence to hospital policies when dealing with bodily fluids and infectious linen, undertaking timely cleaning of static and personal safety equipment.
* Be able to communicate with all people of all ages, abilities and cultures including the seriously ill.
* Undertake admin function such as data entry onto the Radiology Information System and using the portering system as required.
* To undertake additional duties, within scope of practice, as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
* Vocational Qualification at Level 2/GCSEs at grade A* -C, 4 – 9 or equivalent.
* Experience in a relevant care environment.
* Able to communicate with people of all ages, with any disability and/or from any culture.
* Able to cope in distressing circumstances including able to support distressed parents/carers.
* Previous experience in customer care setting.
* Previous experience working with people.
* Previous experience working within a team.
* Able to work using own initiative.
Desirable criteria
* Previous work in a health care setting which should be recent (within the last year), ‘hands on’ care experience.
* Education to A Level/ T Level in one subject.
* Previous experience of stock control.
