Classroom Assistant (SEN)
Salary: £23,878 - £25,775 per annum
Hours: Monday-Friday (approx. 8:30am-3:30pm, with early finish one day)
Contract: Permanent
About the Role
Staffline Recruitment Ireland is currently recruiting for Classroom Assistants (SEN) on behalf of a leading specialist education provider.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with additional needs, including autism and complex learning disabilities, helping them engage in meaningful learning and daily activities.
You will play a key role in promoting independence, supporting wellbeing, and contributing to a safe, structured, and inclusive school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support
1. Support students with learning activities as directed by teaching staff
2. Assist with the delivery of the curriculum through structured daily activities
3. Encourage independence, engagement, and participation
4. Support during break times, lunchtime, and off-site activities
5. Assist with personal care where required
6. Record student progress, incidents, and daily activities
Behaviour Support
7. Follow Personal Learning Plans, Care Plans, and Behaviour Support Plans
8. Use Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and intervention strategies
9. Respond to challenging behaviours appropriately (training provided)
10. Promote a calm, safe, and supportive learning environment
Team & School Support
11. Work collaboratively with teachers and wider staff
12. Maintain effective communication with colleagues and parents
13. Adapt to working across different classrooms and student needs
14. Contribute to a positive, inclusive school culture
Professional Responsibilities
15. Follow safeguarding policies and procedures
16. Attend training and development sessions
17. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
18. Support a clean, safe, and engaging learning environment
Essential Criteria
19. Level 3 qualification (or willingness to be considered based on relevant experience)
20. At least 6 months' experience in an educational, care, or support setting
21. Experience supporting individuals with additional needs or challenging behaviour
22. Strong communication and teamwork skills
23. Ability to work in a physically and emotionally demanding role
24. Flexible and adaptable approach
Desirable Criteria
25. Experience in an SEN or specialist school environment
26. Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
27. GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
28. Skills in communication methods such as Makaton or visual supports
