Hire Desk Controller – Generator Hire
Location: Chelmsford
Salary: From £35,000 (DOE)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm
Holt Recruitment are working with a well-established, family-run generator hire company in Chelmsford to recruit a Hire Desk Controller.
This role is key to the smooth running of a busy hire desk, handling customer enquiries, managing hires, and supporting both internal and external clients. We’re looking for someone with strong organisational skills, great communication, and proven experience in a fast-paced hire desk environment. Knowledge of generators or plant hire is a bonus, but training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
* Handle quotes, manage hires, and process off-hires.
* Act as the first point of contact for customer enquiries.
* Coordinate deliveries/collections with the transport team.
* Liaise with the workshop on stock availability and ETAs.
* Keep systems up to date (CRM & InspHire).
* Monitor generator/tank telemetry and update accordingly.
Experience & Skills
* Minimum 4 years’ experience in a hire desk or customer service role.
* Confident communicator with excellent customer service skills.
* Strong organisational and multitasking ability.
* IT literate (Microsoft Office, CRM systems).
* Knowledge of generators/plant hire desirable (training provided).
