About The Role
The Civic Support Officer provides support to the Nottingham City Council Civic function, working closely with the Lord Mayor and Sheriff to maximise the potential and reputation of civic events and appointments within the City and beyond. The Lord Mayor and Sheriff are key ceremonial posts in the City, acting as high profile ambassadors for the Council and Nottingham in general; providing an important focal point for community celebrations and commemorations; promoting civic and community pride; and supporting local communities, tourism and charities in the City. The post holder will have day-to-day responsibility for all matters relating to the Civic function, including managing civic diaries, supporting the Lord Mayor and Sheriff in attending events and undertaking their civic duties, and advising on civic protocol and procedure. The post holder will also have a leadership role in working with others, both internal and external to the Council, to manage the successful delivery of key civic events, such as the opening of Goose Fair, Remembrance Day commemorations and the Civic Carol Service. This includes event planning, managing budget, resource and risk and dealing with any ‘crises’ that occur.

The ideal candidate will have:

* Experience in organising and managing high profile events
* Ability to build relationships and work effectively with a wide range of individuals and groups including councillors, senior officers, colleagues, citizens, community organisations and other civic representatives and their support offices
* Ability to use their own initiative to work alone and make decisions
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with others to deliver shared objectives
