SEN Assistant Teacher
Salary: £29,083 - £31,467 per annum

About the Role
Staffline Recruitment Ireland is currently recruiting for an Assistant Teacher on behalf of a leading specialist education provider.
This is a senior classroom support role, combining leadership responsibilities with direct, hands-on support for students with additional needs, including autism.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to support learning delivery, lead classroom assistants, and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Support
1. Support the delivery of lessons for individuals and small groups
2. Assist in lesson planning and review with teaching staff
3. Provide structured feedback on student progress
4. Deliver planned learning activities under teacher guidance
5. Provide classroom cover when required
6. Support students during breaks, lunch, and educational visits
7. Use ICT and specialist resources effectively
Behaviour & Student Support
8. Follow Personal Learning Plans and Behaviour Support Plans
9. Apply recognised behaviour support strategies ( PBS, CPI)
10. Respond to incidents and maintain accurate records
11. Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
12. Monitor and report changes in student needs
Team Leadership
13. Supervise and coordinate Classroom Assistants
14. Support induction and mentoring of new staff
15. Provide feedback through performance review processes
16. Allocate tasks and ensure effective team deployment
Communication & Collaboration
17. Build strong relationships with staff, students, and families
18. Attend and contribute to meetings on student progress
19. Promote a collaborative and inclusive school culture
Professional Responsibilities
20. Follow safeguarding and organisational policies
21. Maintain accurate records and documentation
22. Participate in training and professional development
23. Contribute to continuous improvement within the service
Essential Criteria
24. Level 4 qualification (or Level 3 with 5 years' relevant SEN experience, with commitment to achieve Level 4)
25. Minimum 1 year's experience supporting children/young people with learning disabilities and/or autism
26. Experience working in an SEN setting
27. Ability to support and coordinate a team
28. Skills in at least one specialist area ( communication, behaviour, sensory, arts, outdoor learning)
29. Strong literacy and numeracy skills
30. Ability to work in a physically and emotionally demanding environment
Desirable Criteria
31. GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or equivalent)
32. Experience as a Classroom Assistant or similar role
33. Experience managing or supervising staff
34. Training in risk assessment ( IOSH)
35. Knowledge of multidisciplinary working
