There is an exciting opportunity for a talented physicist to gain experience in Medical Physics in the clinical setting. We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable scientist to join the Radiotherapy Physics team at Coventry for a period of 12 months to provide maternity cover. The successful candidate will have a relevant degree and be able to demonstrate the practical and scientific skills required but will not necessarily be experienced in Medical Physics or Radiotherapy. The post will involve carrying out practical tasks to support routine aspect of the service as well as assisting with development projects.

You may be a recent graduate with a demonstrable interest in medical physics, have relevant academic experience and looking to translate to the clinical setting, have experience in industry with skills you wish to transfer to the NHS or just looking to build on your existing experience in radiotherapy physics. A relevant degree and core scientific knowledge relevant to the discipline is required.

The successful candidate will join a team of Clinical Scientists led by our Operations Lead to provide scientific services to the Arden Cancer Centre (ACC). We are located on the University Hospital site at Walsgrave which is on the edge of historic Coventry with convenient transport to the city and easy access to rural Warwickshire, the M6 and the M69 motorways.

Duties will include assisting with aspects of all major areas within the department; brachytherapy, dosimetry, quality control and treatment planning.

Responsibilities

* Provide operational and scientific support to the Radiotherapy Physics service.
* Undertake procedures in accordance with the quality assurance program for Radiotherapy equipment, taking responsibility for the safe use of complex and valuable imaging and treatment equipment. The programme has to be scheduled around equipment availability and must be regularly adapted according to clinical workload and breakdowns.
* Assist with all aspects of the department’s activity including dosimetry, quality control, brachytherapy, treatment planning and computer science.
* Assist with collecting and collating data relevant to providing a Radiotherapy Physics service.
* Assist with research projects and departmental developments through analysis, presentation and distribution of scientific data and information.
* Assist with the development of the department’s procedures and protocols in accordance with relevant legislation, and produce and maintain documentation.
* Assist with undertaking and documenting risk assessments and audits.
