Job summary Terms of Appointment: Fixed term/Secondment for9months from date of appointment.Individuals who hold permanent (substantive) employment within the NHS may only be appointed via secondment. Approval for a secondment must be obtained from your current line manager prior tosubmittingan application. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Research and Evaluation Division in Public Health Wales as aResearch and Evaluation Fellow,within the Evaluation team. The post holderwillbe responsible fordeliveringa rigorous evaluation of a national school-based programme, applying advanced quantitative methods within a quasi-experimental design to generate robust and actionable evidence.This is a unique opportunityto work within the NHS, delivering insightstoinformpublic healthpolicy and practice. Main duties of the job The right person for the role will have highly developed specialist knowledge inappropriate complexquantitative analytical approaches in a public health-related field for research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. You will have a strong background in data andstatistics, andexperience in a field related to public health.The successful applicant will need todemonstrateexceptional communication skills, experience working collaboratively with othersacrossdisciplines andprovidingtechnicalleadershipin thedelivery ofrobust evaluationin public health. This role sits within a supportive and multi-disciplinary team, embedded within a Directorate with a strong focus on evidence,dataand data science in public health. The successful candidate will bring an aptitude to problemsolve andbe motivated by delivering robust evidence to inform action and make a difference to population health. Higher Degree with a strong statistical or mathematical component (or equivalent) Desirable PhD in a Public Health related field Evidence of higher level study in population health or equivalent Experience Essential Significant demonstrable experience in the use of statistical methods in applied public health research and/or evaluation Experience and demonstrated success in planning, undertaking and interpreting statistical aspects in a major research, evaluation or observational studies Desirable Experience of work in public health in a specialist service or academic setting Experience of writing for academic and non-academic audiences Experience in developing macros/code for wider use Experience of providing statistical input into grant applications and demonstrated success in securing funding through a competitive process Knowledge, Skills & Attributes Essential Knowledge of a range of research methods and approaches Ability to undertake complex analysis of quantitative data (including routine data) Skills in designing and using a range of quantitative data collection methods including surveys Advanced statistical and/or mathematical skills including e.g. linear, logistic, cox regression, analysis of variance, repeated measures, survival analyses Experience in statistical programming (e.g., R, Python, SQL) Data management (new and routinely collected data) and analytical skills Excellent organisational skills with an ability to prioritise own work Attention to detail Evidence of an ongoing commitment to professional development Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, plan and manage own workload and plan work in advance to meet deadlines Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and motivate others Understanding and application of research and information governance processes, policies and procedures To show personal commitment to public health through healthy and sustainable behaviours wherever possible.
