About the role:
Ink is looking for an ambitious Editor to cover maternity on Ethiopian Airlines inflight magazine, Selamta. The Editor will take ownership of a bi-monthly magazine, from inception through to print.
Key to the role is having knowledge of African culture, writers and emerging trends in the region. You should be able to come up with original, on-brand ideas routed in the African market. Experience in autonomously editing a print magazine is required, organising shoots and interviews is preferred, combined with knowledge of how to engage reader with travel stories.
You will play an active role in managing cover shoots, as well as the client relationship and planning/ seeing through the entire story list). You will also contribute ideas in the form of storyboarding to the production of short videos requiring occasional uploads from the magazine onto the WordPress CMS.
The role:
* Producing the magazine on time and to budget to the satisfaction of the client
* Briefing and commissioning journalists best suited for each story
* Writing and editing commissioned pieces of on-brand stories adhering to tone of voice
* Working closely with the art team to create dynamic, eye-catching layouts
* Organising bespoke shoots/interviews – to include scheduling, location, assembling team, organising logistics and commissioning the writer
* Managing the production workflow
* Meticulously editing and proofing
* Successfully maintaining and evolving the close relationship with the client
* Working closely with and supporting the commercial team
* Managing wider team including sub editors and freelancer writers
Who we are looking for:
* Experience within an Editor position, working autonomously on a monthly print magazine
* Experience in account management with the ability to build strong relationships
* Experience in managing a budget and a team
* Highly organised and ability to work under pressure, and to tight deadlines
