Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks Many of the roles we advertise have a requirement for a DBS check to be carried out. If you are successful for a role and it requires a DBS check the Trust will carry out the initial check and subscription to the DBS Update Service, however successful candidates will be expected to cover the associated costs. Probationary Period All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful. The team at Warwick Hospital Intensive Care Unit are looking for a dynamic and ambitious Band 5 to join our Intensive Care family. You will be joining a team of skilled and highly motivated staff who provide excellent quality care within our 6 bedded ICU. Our team provide a 24/7 service and therefore the post holder will be required to work a full selection of shifts including long days, nights and weekends. The post is an excellent opportunity to advance your clinical knowledge and skills further in the intensive care speciality. The successful candidate will be provided with a supernumerary period and induction and you will have opportunity to attend a wide selection of in house study days. Your personal and professional development will be supported at all times by a dynamic and friendly ICU team. At this time we are looking for candidates who are already qualified nurses with experience in acute settings. Advert The post holder is required to work as part of a team committed to delivering and improving a high standard of evidence based nursing care within the critical care area. To assist in the overall daily management of the ICU. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Clinical Responsibilities To participate in and be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the nursing care for critically ill patients. To monitor standards of care delivery. To support the implementation and evaluation of the quality initiatives and participate in the “change” process. To ensure the safety of patients, this includes the delegation of patient care to personnel with appropriate levels of skill. To report any accidents/ critical incidents to the senior nurse on duty. To ensure nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with local policies/procedures/ guidelines. To practice in accordance with the NMC Code of professional conduct and Scope of professional practice and maintain own NMC registration. Maintain accurate records of patient care and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Professional Responsibilities Maintain effective two way channels of communication with patients, relatives and all other staff involved in critical care services, ensuring a team approach whilst fostering good working relations with all wards and departments. To participate in team, professional and personal development activities and demonstrate commitment to continuous development and improvement. Attend unit meetings and disseminate information. Maintain a professional attitude at all times acting as a positive role model for critical care services and the nursing profession, whilst maintaining personal motivation. Support flexible working initiatives within the critical care services. To complete the orientation programme and ensure statutory training requirements are updated as per trust policy and equipment-training needs are identified and met. Accept deployment to other wards and departments if the clinical situation / staffing levels demand. Maintain a professional attitude at all times acting as a positive role model for ICU and the nursing profession. Education Participate in ensuring a positive and effective learning environment for all staff. To act as a mentor to student nurses teaching and assessing them in accordance with their objectives, ensuring their placement in critical care is conducive to learning. Financial Management To have an understanding of cost implications within critical care and ensure equipment and consumables are used efficiently to minimise waste. Information Management To provide accurate information for data collection systems. To participate in research and equipment trials carried out within the clinical area.
