The job itself

We are seeking a kind, patient, and reliable support worker to support two children aged 7 and 8 during school holidays. The role will offer opportunities for the children to enjoy time out in the community, access activities they enjoy, and receive individualised support that reflects their different needs and interests.

Support will be arranged flexibly with the parents and may be either 4 hours per child or 8 hours combined per week during school holidays. This will involve supporting the children to attend activities, groups, and outings within the local community.

As the children have differing needs, the support worker should be able to offer 1:1 support when required, or support both children together, sometimes alongside a parent.

We are looking for someone who can:

1. Support the children to access the community, including a variety of activities that the children enjoy including outings and activities outside.
2. Provide reassurance, check-ins and emotional validation to help build confidence.
3. Support development of communication, independence and understanding of social situations, such as taking turns or waiting.
4. Provide 1:1 or joint support, depending on individual needs.
5. Positively handle challenging behaviour, especially as a result of changes to routine and transition and have an awareness and patience with sensory issues like touch and loud voices. Supporting emotional regulation, transitions, and changes to routine it paramount.
6. Provide close supervision, calm guidance and reassurance to develop awareness of safety in the community, in busy or unfamiliar environments.
7. Communicate clearly and demonstrate understanding of each child's specific needs, encourage participation and provide emotional reassurance. Use clear, consistent communication and positive reinforcement.
8. Encourage confidence, independence, and positive social interaction.
9. Promote safety awareness and provide appropriate supervision.
10. Work flexibly alongside parents when required.
