Your next role
This is an exciting opportunity to lead Swindon’s Design and Conservation team driving forward our placemaking, urban design and historic environment expertise accelerating high-quality development and supporting sustainable growth in Swindon.
There are many exciting projects to shape as part of our Heart of Swindon regeneration of the town centre while respecting and enhancing the town’s nationally significant railway and industrial heritage. You will be involved in bringing the old Oasis leisure centre back into use, redevelopment of the shopping and retail areas as well as nationally significant heritage regeneration projects around the Victorian railway village.
Core duties include providing solutions-based advice on major development proposals, complex heritage matters and contributing to relevant policy creation which promotes high quality built and historic environments across the Borough.
You will be leading a small team of design officers as part the council’s planning team. Key stakeholder and communications skills are essential alongside professional qualifications in urban design and heritage.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
