Principal Ecologist – Stantec
Location: Stantec High Wycombe, England, United Kingdom.
Opportunity
Stantec is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Principal Ecologist to join our UK-wide Ecology team. You will work across disciplines to support existing water‑utility partnerships, identify new opportunities, and drive the future of our ecological aspirations.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and a growing UK Ecology team to deliver ecological projects.
* Support water‑utility frameworks in the South East of the UK, managing complex ecological issues within project contexts.
* Mentor staff, engage with clients, and contribute to bids and tenders to increase project diversity.
* Build and lead a talented ecological team, ensuring alignment with Stantec’s vision of innovation and forward‑thinking biodiversity practice.
* Oversee ecological presence in the region by fostering new client relationships and implementing best practices.
Qualifications
* Extensive professional consultancy experience in ecological project delivery.
* Deep knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, and ecological assessment techniques (PEAs, ECIAs, ecological chapters).
* Knowledge of terrestrial ecological issues, UKHab classification, and the Defra Metric.
* Experience conducting fee proposals and managing project budgets.
* Protected species licence or a focused specialism is advantageous.
* Experience in winning work, team development, and client relationship building is a bonus.
