Software Engineer - Contractor (outside IR35)
Location: Tadcaster, United Kingdom
Overview
Begin contract in November‑December 2024 on an outside IR35 basis, working onsite in Tadcaster commissioning automation machinery.
Responsibilities
* Commission automation machines in a software capacity as a Software/Controls Engineer.
* Write PLC code for Beckhoff applications, focusing on structured text, ladder logic and function blocks.
* Integrate motion/servo drives, implementing PackML state machine logic.
* Develop streamlined, efficient code that pushes the boundaries of automation.
* Ensure machines meet the highest safety standards, designing software compliant with the Machine Directive (BS EN 12100).
* Support delivery of high‑quality Beckhoff software design based on customer and regulatory requirements.
* Provide commissioning support for Beckhoff‑based machines at the Tadcaster site.
* Interpret customer and regulatory requirements to minimise technical risk.
* Communicate accurate project status for Beckhoff commissioning activities internally and externally.
* Collaborate with Project teams to ensure successful resource planning for development milestones.
Deliverables
* Create or modify PLC software for automation machinery.
* Create or modify motion applications for servo drive control.
* Manage scope changes and cost‑effective Beckhoff solutions in accordance with company procedures.
* Generate commercial acumen to ensure cost‑effective Beckhoff solutions.
Technical Skills & Experience
* Proficient in Beckhoff programming platforms, hardware configuration and setup.
* Knowledge of structured text, ladder logic and function block programming.
* Experience integrating robotics into automation solutions (Staubli preferred).
* Experience integrating vision systems into industrial automation (Cognex preferred).
* Experience integrating servo drives into industrial automation (Beckhoff).
* Process automation background.
