Overview
An opportunity has arisen for Clinical Support Workers to join our family here on Ward 6 and The Acute Stroke Unit at Furness General Hospital. Ward 6 is a busy medical ward with specialities in Stroke and Frail elderly care. The ward also incorporates the 5 bedded Acute Stroke Unit. We are looking for caring, enthusiastic and motivated individuals with previous care experience and flexibility to work shifts including rotation to nights.
You will receive structured appraisal, support, mentorship and training. The successful candidate will be fundamental in supporting our patients in all aspects of care. A full preceptorship package is available to support your needs.
Main duties of the job
* Ensure that all care provided by yourself is documented appropriately.
* Recognise changes in patient condition and report to a RN.
* Ensure patient dignity and individual patient needs are met.
* Support RN\'s in providing information and advice on health promotion.
* Instigate emergency procedures e.g. fire; CPR.
* Act as an effective role model for all ward staff.
* Assist in ensuring that effective channels are used to canvas the views and concerns of all patients and carers.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. Our community services for adults are provided in people\'s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

Person Specification
Essential
* Education and qualifications: Good general education; Basic literacy and numeracy skills; Previous experience in nursing
* Experience: Previous experience of working with the general public
* Skills, ability and knowledge: Good basic hygiene skills; Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative or with minimal supervision
Desirable
* Willingness to undertake NVQ level 3 in care related area
* Completed Trust Support Worker Programme
* Manual handling of patients, using lifting aids
* Awareness of the NHS structure and current issues
* IT skills to basic level
