We have an exciting opportunity for a Early Days in Custody Practitioner to join our team at HMP Altcourse, a category B Prison located in Fazakerley, Liverpool.
HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in the country, so there's lots going on in this exciting, varied role, where you will gain valuable experience, and no 2 days are ever the same!
About The Role
As a Early Days in Custody Practitioner you will focus on the admission and reception of new arrivals, including initial screening assessments, referrals, and identifying substance misuse needs.

Salary & Working Hours
This position is full time; you’ll receive an annual salary up to £34,428 - £41,658 per annum FTE. Hours: Monday - Sunday service – 37.5 hours per week. Shifts: 7am-8pm, 8am-9pm, 9am-10pm. One weekend in three. Rota's are done 2 months in advance. Very occasional nights.

Responsibilities
* Ensuring patients have medical plans of care, assessing patients and carrying out relevant clinical investigations during their arrival, and arranging follow-up appointments while giving advice and information.
* Involved in release, courts and transfers.
* Clinically evaluate and ensure the safe transfer of patients to acute hospitals if needed, ensuring plans of care are understood by the patient and the prison.
* Support in undertaking audits and governance.
* Provide health care to patients on site and across the prison, including emergency care such as suturing, dressings, and primary care functions.

Qualifications & Experience
* Registered nurse – Adult NMC
* Evidence of Continued Professional Development
* Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
* Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards
* Understanding of audit and datix
* Experience in hospital, community or prison environment is ideal but not essential.
